Are you a digital nomad? Welcome to Jerez.
Taking part in last month’s FITUR (International Tourism Trade Fair) in Madrid has been a truly enriching experience. Beyond the event itself, the real value for me at these gatherings lies in what happens between the booths: unexpected encounters, inspiring conversations, ideas that emerge almost without our noticing, and connections that might turn into something truly meaningful.
One of the highlights for me was exploring the potential for attracting the expanding demographic of digital nomads – who gravitate towards Spain for obvious reasons – to the beautiful town of Jerez. My expat friends and clients have confirmed my own belief that Jerez is truly a great place to live and work remotely. It’s affordable, you can walk just about everywhere, and there’s no shortage of like-minded entrepreneurs and go-getters willing to support one another.
The burgeoning CEN network shows us just how connected the Jerez self-employed business community is becoming. More and more people and companies are looking for destinations with great quality of life where they can live and work, not just visit. CEN is a platform for welcoming, accompanying and soft-landing people who wish to live and work in Jerez, and I encourage you to check it out.
Arriving in a new country is just the beginning. Finding somewhere to live, becoming familiar with your new town and its delights (and resources), and navigating residency, taxes, banking, utilities and bureaucracy can be daunting and time consuming. My own experiences, first moving from Jerez to Switzerland over a decade ago, and back again to Jerez, remind me of the challenges of moving country, particularly when language is a barrier.
Digital nomads, welcome to Jerez. I look forward to meeting you. Maybe even virtually!
